Mutahi Kagwe is a former cabinet secretary for Health in the Republic of Kenya. He assumed office on 28 February 2020 after the docket was handed over to him by the previous cabinet secretary for Health. He hit the airwaves at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic when the first case was confirmed in Nairobi on 12 March 2020 following the outbreakin December 2019.
Notable Accomplishments:
In the year 2005, Kagwe was appointed to the cabinet as the minister of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) by the late former President Mwai Kibaki. In this position, he, along with the former permanent secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology, Dr. Bitange Ndemo, spearheaded the construction of The East African Marine System (TEAMS), which was the first fiber-optic project for Eastern Africa.
This saw Kenya taking up the use of fiber-optic cables, leading to a great transformation in communication because there was a reduction of call tariffs across the different telecommunication network providers and a spiral of internet speeds.
It is also worth mentioning that Vodafone and Safaricom launched Mpesa, the world's first-ever mobile money transfer system, in Kenya during his term.
Education:
Hon. Mutahi Kagwe was born in 1958 and he attended his early education at Kihate Primary School from 1965 - 1971. He later joined Kagumo High School in 1972 - 1977 to pursue his O levels and A levels.
Kagwe would later join the University of Nairobi from 1978 - 1981 where he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Insurance) degree.
He took further studies at the United States International University from 1988 - 1992 and graduated with an MBA.
Before Kagwe got into politics he was in private business and had an independent publishing house as well as a public relations company. Between 1987 and 1989 he was working with the Standard Media Group's advertising department where he rose to the position of commercial director of the institution.
Other Accomplishments:
Outside of politics he has held and continues to hold many positions including, chairman of several corporate boards. He is also the former Multimedia University Council Chairman. He is a professional member of the Marketing Society of Kenya, the Kenya Institute of Management, the parliamentarian network of the World Bank, and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
He is also credited with having sponsored the Cyber Security and Protection Bill in the Senate of Kenya.

Patrice Tlhopane Motsepe (born 28 January 1962) is a South African mining businessman.
Since 12 March 2021, he has been serving as the President of the Confederation of African Football.
He is the founder and executive chairman of African Rainbow Minerals, which has interests in gold, ferrous metals, base metals, and platinum. He sits on several company boards, including being the non-executive chairman of Harmony Gold, the world's 12th largest gold mining company, and the deputy chairman of Sanlam.
Notable Achievements:
In 1997, with gold prices at a low, he purchased marginal gold mines from AngloGold under favourable finance terms. AngloGold sold Motsepe six gold mine shafts for $7.7 million allowing him to repay the debt out of the future earnings of the company now known as African Rainbow Minerals.
This was repeated in a string of deals and Motsepe set up a firm to begin buying the operating mines that would become the source of his wealth. In 1999 he teamed up with two of his associates to form Greene and Partners Investments.
The Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) laws introduced after the 1994 elections have been instrumental in cementing Motsepe's position in the mining industry in South Africa. A business must have a minimum of 26% black ownership to be considered for a mining license.
Since 2004, Motsepe has been a non-executive director of Absa Group and Sanlam.
Education:
Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Swaziland and a law degree from the University of the Witwatersrand. He specialised in mining and business law.
Motsepe is also the founder of African Rainbow Minerals Platinum (Proprietary) Limited and ARM Consortium Limited, which later equally split ownership with Anglo American Platinum Corp Ltd. From 2005, Motsepe was Chairman of Teal Exploration and Mining Incorporated.
Other Achivements:
Motsepe is also chairman of Ubuntu-Botho Investments, Non-Executive chairman of Harmony Gold Mining Co Ltd. and deputy Chairman of Sanlam Ltd. Motsepe has been president of South Africa's Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
He is the owner of Mamelodi Sundowns F.C. a Premier soccer league club. In November 2019, Motsepe bought a 37% stake in the Blue Bulls Co.

Paul Kagame, (born October 1957), is a Rwandan military leader and politician, who, as leader of the Rwandan Patriot Front, defeated Hutu extremist forces to end the 1994 Rwandan genocide. In 2000 he became president of Rwanda.
Presidency:
During the 2003 presidential campaign, Kagame portrayed himself as a Rwandan rather than a Tutsi and attempted to downplay the existence of ethnic strife in the country.
Kagame won a landslide victory in the country’s first multiparty elections.
He was sworn into office on September 12, 2003, ending the nine-year transitional government. A major focus of his presidency was building national unity and the country’s economy.
Kagame has worked toward rebuilding Rwanda and has been lauded for making notable gains, such as fostering a consistently strong economy and having improved social conditions in Rwanda.
However, praise for the progress occurring under his administration continued to be tempered by criticism of its intolerance of political dissent and media freedom, as well as Rwanda’s alleged continued involvement in conflicts in neighbouring countries.
Still, he remains popular in many circles at home and abroad.

The Chairperson of the Commission is elected by the Assembly for a four-year term, renewable once.
RAILA IS THE REAL DEAL FOR AFRICA:
The declaration by former prime minister of the Republic of Kenya Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga that he would be vying for AU Commission Chairmanship presents a golden opportunity for Africa to retrace her path and turn the Pan-African dream into a reality.
Canonised as Africa's Nelson Mandela of today, Raila has stood distinctly tall among his peers in Kenya and beyond as the father of democracy, a champion of good governance, and the embodiment of continental statesmanship.
AFRICA’S RENOWNED REFORMIST:
It was his unwavering commitment to constitutional reforms in Kenya that resulted in the adoption and promulgation of the 2010 constitution, which is hailed globally as one of the most transformative constitutions.
Over decades of serving as a political leader in Kenya, Raila has proved to be a selfless leader who has, on several occasions, sacrificed his personal interests for the common good of the people. Even in the most difficult of circumstances, he has always remained compassionate at heart and strong in spirit and will.
There has never been a better time for the African Union to get a forward-looking leader who carries with him the true spirit and aspirations of Pan-Africanism than now.
TRUE PAN-AFRICANIST:
Africa's growing democracy needs a dynamic, resilient, and widely experienced leader at its helm to build consensus and foster collegiality in state and regional leadership. Raila is one such leader.
The former premier is not new to the roles before him. He understands Africa’s vision, capacity, and all the ills that have been holding her back. He has articulated these issues several times locally and internationally in a bid to lobby for support to make Africa great.
It was not by mistake or chance that he was appointed AU envoy for infrastructure development. It was based on merit. His understanding of the continent's political and socio-economic needs and challenges is unmatched.
When he was appointed Africa's envoy for infrastructure development in 2018, AU, in a statement, said, "Raila brings with him a rich political experience and a strong commitment to the ideals of Pan-Africanism and African integration, as well as a deep knowledge of infrastructure development."
